His dedication to teaching led him back to Washington University, where he was invited to lecture in Retinoscopy. Those annual lectures inspired The Retinoscopy Book, a bestseller that remained in print through five editions over 25 years.
Driven to do more, he founded the Royal Hawaiian Eye Meeting, which became the third-largest eye meeting in the country and continues today. From that momentum, he launched the Hawaiian Eye Foundation, sending annual mission teams to serve communities across the South Pacific.
In addition to his clinical and nonprofit work, he served as Associate Editor of the Hawaii Medical Journal and was invited to join the visiting faculty of the South African Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. Throughout his journey, he also raised three wonderful children who brought joy and purpose to his life.
His life in Hawaii expanded beyond medicine—he built a home and office on Molokai, became a helicopter pilot, and flew between his offices on Lanai and Molokai.
